The Challenge

Dream Accounts is a HTML5 mobile app that encourages high school students in low-income neighborhoods to go to college. It offers young people the experience to interact with real college student mentors that come from similar backgrounds, learn through playing trivia games, all the while allowing them to earn points that can be redeemed for fun prizes and scholarships.

My Role

The Dream Accounts team came to us with their designer and a couple initial iterations of wireframes. My role for this project was to work with the current designer, as well as in-house developers to brainstorm the best and most engaging user experience to satisfy the mission of the organization. Once the features and general user stories were defined, we worked tirelessly on many rounds of wireframes and user testing rounds before we began the design. Once the design was approved and tested well with user groups, I dove into the code. We used the Sencha Touch javascript framework to build the application and I handled the front-end components and their styling. Dream Accounts has had over a dozen iterations since the initial launch and I have since overseen design for additional features, icon resources, and interface updates.
